Ubuntu / Kubuntu 18.04 by default does support 3D Hardware graphics acceleration, but for some reason VMWare can’t take advance of it because VMWare blacklisted Mesa DRI driver (Mesa is an open-source OpenGL implementation) for most Intel’s integrated graphic processors IGPUs.

I have installed Vmware Player 6.0.3 build-1895310. The problem I have is that when I run a Windows 7 Vm, it says that 3D support was disabled. (I can't read the exact report atm because it has a chance of crashing my machine.) I have the 3D support box enabled. Here is my graphics card: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2.

Dec 12, 2015 · Warning exists underneath 3D Acceleration option. Windows 10 64-bit host, Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit guest. sudo apt-get update and tried installing latest version. No cigar. Also tried typical VMWare Tools install + open-vm-tools desktop, which gets me autofit at least.

From what I have seen, VMware provides better 3D support so I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on VMWare player free version with 3D enabled and all default animation work out of the box, gnome is smooth working as it should.
