The VLC Media Player is very fussy and only accepts LiSong Pro (儷宋 Pro) (Previous link no longer works, Comment below with your email address and I can send it over by email). Put the downloaded font into C:\Windows\Fonts. SimSun and all other fancy Chinese fonts don't cut it for VLC.

Apr 27, 2015 · This is nonsense. The same video/Chinese subtitle works just fine in Windows Media Player Classic even the .srt file can not be displayed correctly in notepad. VLC must correct this stupid issue. I am not going to waste time to change all my .srt files just because VLC does not work. I will just dump VLC and use Windows Media Player Classic.
