I have two laptops running Ubuntu 16.04 via VirtualBox. On one of them, usb drives work exactly as expected. On the other... not so much. I _THINK_ it's due to lack of USB 3.0 support in the guest, but I don't understand how one guest would have it and the other would not.

Dec 13, 2011 · I have Windows XP guest in Vbox on an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server. I can't seem to get the USB working -- no USB devices e.g. memory sticks, external hards -- and have read the manual and recent forum posts, but none has lead me to the solution. In the Windows XP guest, if a USB device is plugged in, I cannot see it in the Device Manager.
