Jul 18, 2015 · VirtualBox USB Transfer Speeds. The inclusion of USB 3.0 support in VirtualBox 5.0 is a great improvement. While I was able to access USB drive in VirtualBox guest OS, I was a bit disappointed with the USB 3.0 speeds. The maximum write speeds hovered around 21 MB per second as shown in the picture below.

I confirm this problem. I am running Windows XP as a guest running on VirtualBox on a Ubuntu Intrepid machine. USB support was enabled and works flawlessly for USB portable hard disk devices. Windows XP also detects that the device connected to the machine is a USB Video device.

Today, many new laptops are shipping with USB3.0 ports only. Currently VirtualBox does not support USB3.0 which makes it impossible to use any USB devices with a guests OS. I use VirtualBox extensively on laptops and this has become more and more of an issue, to the point where I have had to switch to VMWare to run my guests until we catch up.
