Nov 06, 2012 · I am running Win7 - 64 bit host and Guest. I have tried Virtualbox 3.x and currently v4.1.12 (which is the highest version I can use to be compatible with ShadowProtect). When I try to enable the screen saver(e.g. bubbles) I get the message "The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or one that's compatible with Direct3D".

Just grabbed VirtualBox yesterday, and discovered this problem today. Without Direct3D support, VirtualBox is worthless to me. With it, I'd be willing to pay quite a bit for it. It's a shame, because you guys have done such a fantastic job with this software. Very user friendly, and *much* faster than qemu.

However, they do report that Direct3D is supported (without these DLLs present, they claim that Direct3D acceleration is unavailable), but fail upon initialisation. Most of the heavy work is done -- the Wine project has been wrapping Direct3D games for years, and VirtualBox has some awesome OpenGL support.
