The proposed temporal stereo matching algorithm is an extension of the real-time iterative adaptive support-weight algorithm described in [3]. In addition to real-time two-pass aggregation of the cost values in the spatial domain, the proposed algorithm enhances stereo matching on video sequences by aggregating costs along the time dimension.

It attracts many researchers' attention to find a stereo matching algorithm both accurate and fast. Yoon and Kweon's Adaptive Support-Weight(ASW) method is supposed to be a very successful algorithm in both accuracy and speed. However, it is very time consuming for ASW to take a large number of pixels into consideration for computing a disparity.

In recent years, local stereo matching algorithms have again become very popular in the stereo community. This is mainly due to the introduction of adaptive support weight algorithms that can for the first time produce results that are on par with global stereo methods.Cited by: 108

The authors have embedded this adaptive-window method in an iterative stereo matching algorithm: starting with an initial estimate of the disparity map, the algorithm iteratively updates the disparity estimate for each point by choosing the size and shape of a window till it converges.Cited by: 1762

The disparity image and the left image from stereo views were applied to generate the intermediate seven virtual viewpoint images along the horizontal baseline. The Adaptive Support-Weight (ASW) algorithm with Variable Support Window (VSW) was applied to obtain the disparity image.
