Jan 24, 2011 · SOLVED: HyperV Error: A Virtual Disk Provider for the specified file was not found January 24, 2011 March 14, 2018 I recently blew an hour trying to attach a VHD inot a HyperV on a new Server 2008 R2 64Bit Standard server but received “A Virtual Disk Provider for the specified file was not found” which was not cool.

I opened Disk Management and clicked Action, Create VHD. The window opened asking where I would like to place this file, the requested size of the vhd, and type.

Aug 04, 2017 · How do you have your NICs configured in HyperV? Dedicated per VM or connected to virtual switches? Also I recall problems with Broadcom NICs and Hyper-V requiring turning off Virtual Machine queues in the NIC advanced properties but you seem be having issues with the Intel NICs.

The disks that host the VMs are formatted to 512Byte as is the backup drives in the media server to which it is being backed up to. However, when i try to attached a VHD using Windows Disk Management, i recieve this error: " A Virtual Disk Provider for the specified file was not found ".

Good to know. I can also confirm that I can run VMs as long as there are no VHDs connected to any of the controllers. The more research I do into this, the more the issue seems to be pointing towards the FSDepends and the onboard LSI SCSI controller.

Detailed error: A virtual disk support provider for the specified file was not found” Server is a Windows 2008 R2 Standard with Backup Exec 2010 R2 also installed. Solution was to change the registry key “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FsDepends” from 3 to 0 and reboot.
