Sep 29, 2009 · As cpanelkenneth told you in not so many words, virtual directory support with PHP is really a feature designed for MS Windows based platforms. You can get limited functionality under Apache over Linux but only if your PHP is setup as a DSO (Apache Module) and even then it won't be the full virtual directory functionality subset.

We have a server with two name-based vhosts. In order to match the correct virtual host a client must send the correct Host: header. Old HTTP/1.0 clients do not send such a header and Apache has no clue what vhost the client tried to reach (and serves the request from the primary vhost).

Dec 23, 2008 · Virtual Directory Support "enabled" for PHP, I am told, is the outcome of setting up Virtual Directory Support under Apache. I'm not sure my terminology is correct. I've looked at scores of links to "Virtual Directory Support under PHP" but none ever tell you "HOW" to set it up.

With virtual hosts, the NameVirtualHost setting often causes confusion. Each interface and port on which Apache is set to listen needs a NameVirtualHost directive. You can define the directive only once per port. In the Apache layout for the Ubuntu operating system there is a default NameVirtualHost directive in the ports.conf file.

Oct 15, 2010 · I don't really think that you need Virtual Directory Support. If you're running apache as a web server, you can use mod_rewrite. If you absolutely want to enable this feature, you must use a php binary compiled with thread safety (e.g. using --enable-maintainer-zts to configure php sources) Regards
