Jul 11, 2019 · It sounds to me like you are trying to make Unraid into a FreeNAS clone, which it isn't. ZFS can be self-repairing because of its RAID design. Bringing the ZFS file system over to Unraid will not automatically make it self-repairing, because Unraid isn't RAID (i.e. what johnnie said a few posts back).

Dec 04, 2019 · I've just installed the ZFS plugin on unraid and love it. I decided to take two drives out of my unraid array and assign them to a ZFS mirror to store important photos and documents on. This makes unraid nearly the perfect system. I agree it would be great to have ZFS cache pool.

Dec 21, 2019 · ZFS is the FS. Unraid is not built to support ZFS. The last few weeks have been the first time I’ve used Unraid in some time and it has matured well. It seems to have a diverse and talented user base and the user base is adding a lot of features and flexibility to the system.

May 03, 2012 · For these reasons, if Unraid doesn't suit you - I'd actually consider proxmox before FreeNAS. Proxmox support zfs and other standard filesystems and arrays (ZFS doesn't do RAID 5 reliably for example) and has a more enterprise feature set which is nice (e.g proper vm backups, docker and LXC which is very cool (think a whole ubuntu distro in 2MB).

Sep 20, 2015 · This plugin may just turn unraid back to awesome. I don't know why unraid don't just include this plugin (which would get around the recompile issues) and make it an expert option that you can make a ZFS array instead. Or one of each unraid / zfs (that's what I'm going to do).

btrfs or xfs for new server? - General Support - Unraid

    https://forums.unraid.net/topic/58907-btrfs-or-xfs-for-new-server/
Nov 03, 2017 · IMO main current advantage of ZFS over btrfs is RAIDZ for pools, RAID5/6 on btrfs is still experimental and not ready for production, but using a ZFS pool would negate unRAID main advantages over FreeNAS, like using full capacity from different sized disks, possibility of adding or removing disks from the array, etc, since unRAID uses each disk as a separate filesystem btrfs is as good option ...
