Apr 05, 2019 · First of all it should be emphasized that Ganged does not mean dual channel and Unganged single channel, or the opposite: both modes support dual channel, if you use pairs of similar RAM sticks in the proper slots of the motherboard. Ganged means you will have a large 128bit pipe, and unganged means you will have a 2 x 64bit pipes.

After a little web research I got a bit confused since some say that "Ganged" mode is just a different name for Dual DDR mode while others suggest that it has nothing to do with dual DDR, it's just how the memory controller of a Phenom based CPU operates.

May 04, 2009 · Unganged keeps them separate by having 2x 64bit pipes. Performance wise, it depends on the application. Single threated applications will get more performance from ganged mode. While multi-threaded applications will get better performance from unganged mode. So far from what i can tell, unganged is overall the better choice.

Nov 11, 2011 · I did some google reading on this topic. Ganged mode will beat unganged in specialized single-threaded benchmarks. But for real-world usage, and especially when more than one thread executing, unganged is the clear winner. I seriously doubt ganged vs unganged is the source of your performance problems.
