Apr 26, 2019 · I was trying to install Ubuntu 18.04. I managed to get it working by using the command "pci=noacpi" to disable the acpi, but it seems I have to do this everytime I boot up the laptop, which is pretty inconvenient. Seems that the ACPI thing is a big problem, but I don't know how to solve it

It seems to be a problems whe NVIDIA drivers, but I didn't manage to overcome it and in fact, for the work I'm going to carry out, I need to install 18.04 version instead, what seems to be impossible. I'll appreciate any help to overcome this problem and be able to install Ubuntu 18.04.

On my new PC something is wrong with ACPI support under Linux. I have to boot it with acpi=off and nolapic. Also it detects only one CPU core (this annoys me the most) and won't shut down completely, I have to hold power button for few seconds to power PC off.

I don't know what they did with Ubuntu, but it's gone and the internal hard drive is completely clean. I decided to reinstall Ubuntu, always in dual boot with Windows. I created a live USB with Rufus with the Ubuntu .iso file. I switched on the PC and in the grub menu I chose the Install Ubuntu option.

Dec 23, 2009 · Installation: Installation hangs, but worked when I used acpi=off. Later (see below), I discovered that pci=noacpi should be used instead. Later, discovered that noapic is even better - sound and networking work fully.
