If they were to only allow games with a trophy patch you could end up waiting years for your favorite game to finally get "unlocked". In a perfect world, they'd create a division within PlayStation that spends all their time and money playing old games and looking for memory addresses to create trophy patches, but this is unlikely to ever happen.

Not a big deal to me. I think trophies are neat but there's no reason to go back to games made 10+ years ago and add trophy support. There's also no incentive, and further, some of the developers/publishers of those old games may not exist any longer.
