Reopening this ticket, given the existence of a Python markdown module. I love trac, but hate the wiki syntax - markdown support (well, and a proxy webdav view of the wiki) would make trac the ultimate über project and documentation tool from heaven.

The python markdown component has support for certain extensions, e.g. tables. The tables extensions seems to play nicely with the HTML rendering in Trac and it is easy to add it.

+ for markdown support However the only way Markdown is really going to be adopted this way is if we can use it as the default text markup. As soon as we need # etc and to close then Markdown will not get used. So we need it to be in trac.ini to support default without / /!/# / tricks.
