OpenSSL uses its own configuration system, and does not use Autoconf. However, a number of popular projects use both OpenSSL and Autoconf, and it would be useful to detect either OPENSSL_init_ssl or SSL_library_init from libssl. To craft a feature test for OpenSSL that recognizes both OPENSSL_init_ssl and SSL_library_init, you can use the following.

Nov 24, 2017 · Generally speaking, we're thinking that an application shouldn't need to use OPENSSL_init_crypto or OPENSSL_init_ssl, as these are called internally when needed.Secondly, I'd say that an application that knowingly uses anything that ends up calling libssl routines should call OPENSSL_init_ssl before OPENSSL_init_crypto, if that's at all needed.. Remains, of course, cases …

We also recommend using the strongest protocol supported by both client and server. However, some of our client tools do not include the latest version to support OpenSSL 1.1.1, such as wIntegrate and U2ODBC, so the maximum version used by default is still TLS v1.2. We will be adding support for TLSv1.3 to our tools and clients in future releases.

Jan 22, 2011 · Unfortunately, the OpenSSL configuration doesn't include shared library support for this platform yet, so it will pretend you gave the option 'no-shared'. If you can inform the developpers (openssl-dev\@openssl.org) how to support shared libraries on this platform, they will at least look at it and try their best (but please first make sure you have tried with a current version of OpenSSL).

DESCRIPTION. The OpenSSL CONF library can be used to read configuration files. It is used for the OpenSSL master configuration file openssl.cnf and in a few other places like SPKAC files and certificate extension files for the x509 utility. OpenSSL applications can also use the CONF library for their own purposes.

My question is how to configure the build in a way, that it can hardcode all binary and library dependencies of shared libraries without using LD_LIBRARY_PATH, or anything like that. OpenSSL supports RPATH 's out of the box for BSD targets (but not others).
