What is authentication? When you use email in Desk.com, IMAP or SMTP is used to send or receive the email. Communication is opened between the Desk.com servers and your mail server, and Usernames and Passwords are used to authenticate the user. All IMAP servers require authentication, but some SMTP mail servers do not require authentication.

I also have a few other devices/services sending emails out as well authenticating through the smtp server. But what is really getting me about this problem is that it says the server does not support authentication (SMTP server does not support authentication) but yet it needs to authenticate (STARTTLS)... if I reading the errors correctly.

Apr 13, 2010 · A few notes: Yes - under Server - Mail settings for Plesk I have it set to Authentication is required (SMTP is checked, POP3 locktime text field left blank and also unchecked). I have it set to Only use of full POP3/IMAP mail accounts names is allowed as well.

May 27, 2013 · I've religiously followed the instructions & the Incoming settings are accepted but when I put in the Outgoing details it always comes up with "Your outgoing server does not support authentication. Please verify your outgoing server settings". I am not a computer/phone expert but managed to set up my BlackBerry without any problem.
