Aug 21, 2014 · My uneducated guess: The hinge gets loose and sloppy and causes issues with closing the tailgate, where in theory the flexible multi-strand cable is more durable. But as I understand it, the crimp is the part that usually breaks, not the cable itself. So that's kind of a fail.
