May 02, 2013 · I'm finding this absolutely hard to believe, but from everything I'm reading, Symantec Backup Exec still doesn't support Windows Server 2012? I just got done migrating about 2TB's worth of data to a new Server 2012 file server.

I have written off Acronis and now using Trial version of Symantec Backup Exec 2012 on a temporary server (Windows Server 2008 R2) to get some offsite backups working, the remote agent works okay on the older servers, server 2003 etc, but has compatibility issues when installed on Server 2012.

Yes Craig, Backup Exec Service Pack 2 officially support Windows Server 2012; not as a Media Server. It supports it with RAWS installed on it. Backup Exec 2012 Service Pack 2 will still need to be installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 or which ever Operating System(for Media Server) is mentioned in the Software Compatibility List.

Dec 12, 2012 · Great! So it will be 19 months from the Developer Preview for Windows Server 2012 to a BETA (!) version of a Backup Exec version that will be able to back it up! Great! Symantec really screwed this. The beta should have been there early 2012 and the RTM in September 2012…
