Apr 19, 2018 · Note that if you store UTF-8 data in SQL Server you should not use character columns (CHAR/NCHAR/VARCHAR and so forth). UTF-8 is not valid character data to SQL Server, and by storing non-character data in character columns you risk encountering problems such as the issues discussed in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:

May 23, 2010 · I am also facing this issue as we are upgrading SQL server 2005 to 2008. Code Page does not work with UTF-8 file and if we change these files to Unicode code page works. So we have to write application to convert all files to Unicode which I am still working on.

I can't find option(s) directly to set UTF-8 rellated Collations/Charsets in SQL Server 2005/2008, same as is possible to set in another SQL engines, but in SQL Server 2005/2008 are there only Latin and SQL collations. May 16, 2011 · It doesn't understand UTF-8 (notepad does!) >As you found out, it is not aware of the format used by UTF-8 files, same as it is not aware of the format >used by Word or Excel files. I do not know of any other native Windows command that can concatenate files. That's not fair comparison. Word/Excel can operate on public binary formats such as zip.
