In preparation for running SQL Server 2008 on this cluster, I recommend creating at least 4 disks - one for the quorum disk, one for MSDTC, one for the SQL Server system databases and one for the user databases. However, you may consider deploying Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 (free edition) and run your Windows Server 208 R2 Standard Edition as a VM on top of Hyper-V Server 2008 R2. Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 DOES include clustering, so you can configure your VMs to be highly available.

Jun 03, 2010 · For SQL 2008 Standard edition, is the limit 64GB or is it ‘Operating System Maximum’ as the website says? We are running SQL 2008 Std Edition on VMWare and for some reason 64GB is being spoken as the max memory that can be allocated to SQL Server (without having to purchase Enterprise edition and incurring a huge cost increase).
