Ok well the Sprint Agent I spoke to last night told me it was a requiremenr and that AppleCare is not sufficient enough but TEP has AppleCare name attached to it. It would be great if I could receive clear honest communication from Sprint instead of everything seeming they just want more money.

If you don't have insurance, Sprint will assist you with basic troubleshooting steps over the phone or in store, but if it requires an in-store technician to perform repairs on the device, there would be a flat $35 charge.
