Aug 13, 2013 · Please add 24bit / flac support in Sonos A workaround is to play from a PC (Windows 10 built-in music player), then select 'play on device', then select the Sonos player from the PC. So, since Sonos won't accept 24-bit streams, your Win10 media server must be down-converting the file.

Mar 26, 2019 · Sonos has no stated intention to support 24-bit officially. The fact that FLAC 24-bit is played -- apparently reduced to 16-bit -- is a side-effect of another change. You must downconvert your ALAC file to 16-bit yourself.

How to Play Hi-Res Audio Files on Sonos Vaetr Design

May 05, 2015 · It is possible to play high resolution 192 kbps 24 bit (or 96 kbps 24 bit) files on your Sonos system, sort of. This depends on downsampling the files, but more importantly hinges on the unpublished capability of Sonos to support 48 kHz / 16 bit / 1536 kbps…

Aug 29, 2018 · OK Sonos, when did you sneak that one in? :D I discovered a few years back that Sonos could play 24/48 WAV files, but at the time (2016) when I tried it with a 24/48 FLAC file it wouldn't work (as expected, seeing as Sonos officially doesn't support hi-res).

Jan 05, 2017 · As a long time Sonos user I'm disappointed to say I'll be moving on. I have started looking for a system that can handle hi res files like DSD, or at least 24 bit. How i can appreciate the value in not having to upgrade my Sonos equipment, you'd think after over a decade there would be some interest...

Sep 04, 2012 · The system on the pc will not even recognise the existence of my 96/24 tracks (flac or wav). Worse still, I have some 5.1 at the same high bitrate. These also are not recognised. When will sonos include support for streaming hidef audio to my sonos connect (which I …

    https://en.community.sonos.com/music-services-and-sources-228994/24-bit-change-6804810
Mar 27, 2018 · As noted in the linked thread, Sonos is understood to truncate to 16-bit at the start of the audio pipeline. (Ironically the processing itself is then in 24-bit.) If quality is the objective it could still make sense to downconvert 24-bit files to 16-bit, applying appropriate dither.

Feb 07, 2017 · Bit depth is a little less certain - in the Tom Cullen quote he says "There are arguments you could make about deeper bit depth". I'd be interested to know what they are.
