Aug 16, 2017 · Oracle Solaris 11 is a supported guest operating system on Oracle VM Server for SPARC, Oracle VM Server for x86, and Oracle VM VirtualBox. Oracle Solaris 11 is known to work on a number of other third-party virtualization offerings from vendors including VMware, Microsoft, and Red Hat. So Solaris 11 work on VmWare platform, but not supported.

VMware Tools 11.0.0 release freezes support for Solaris guests. The tar tools (linux.iso) and OSPs shipped with VMware Tools 10.3.5 release will continue to be supported. However, releases after VMware Tools 10.3.5 will only include critical and security fixes and no new feature support in these types of VMware Tools (tar tools and OSP's).

Jan 15, 2005 · Solaris on x86 is popular among Sysadmins. Sysadmins usually have VMWare, too. If it`s not too much effort for VMWare folks to support Solaris, they should do it, IMHO. This would make Sysadmins more happy. (and SUN Microsystems, too) Roland
