Sep 12, 2006 · Just for fun, I specified mynetworks_style = host, and authentication from my lan (on the same subnet) failed. So, I guess it isn't authenticating at all, but was allowing relaying because the machines are on the same sbunet. And nothing at all is added to the log when I get the message "Mail server does not support secure authentication".

Because I had deleted and set up the account again, I immediately suspected that I had an option set up that the ISP couldn't handle.

What is authentication? When you use email in Desk.com, IMAP or SMTP is used to send or receive the email. Communication is opened between the Desk.com servers and your mail server, and Usernames and Passwords are used to authenticate the user. All IMAP servers require authentication, but some SMTP mail servers do not require authentication.

Apr 13, 2010 · Does SMTP Authentication not work in Plesk 8.6.0? This seems like quite an issue. A few notes: Yes - under Server - Mail settings for Plesk I have it set to Authentication is required (SMTP is checked, POP3 locktime text field left blank and also unchecked).

I also have a few other devices/services sending emails out as well authenticating through the smtp server. But what is really getting me about this problem is that it says the server does not support authentication (SMTP server does not support authentication) but yet it needs to authenticate (STARTTLS)... if I reading the errors correctly.
