I am having difficulty placing the odor, but it is kind of sickly sweet -it's slightly nauseating, to be honest, and after a while it starts giving me a headache. The oddest thing is that I don't smell it if I put my nose right up to the computer. I only smell it when I'm at arm's length or so.

Power strip is old and outdated, and I got a smoke smell in the area, but could not locate the smell to the computer, so I am guessing it was the power strip. It would make sense because the smell would only arise when I needed the most energy out of my computer.

Jul 04, 2005 · if all else fails, you may have to take pc apart, clean out the case with ammonia/water, clean all the fans, cig smoke condenses on stuff forming a coating that is tuff to get off w/o ammonia or other solvent, water wont work. the pc boards you really dont want to mess with, other than blowing as much dust off as you can.
