Skeinforge has a support material option that many people don't use, but it actually works quite well if used correctly. It isn't perfect, but it can make a big difference in some prints. At the bottom of the "Raft" tab, there are a few support options. "Support Cross Hatch" - If checked prints support layers in an alternating cross-hatch pattern.

Sep 10, 2012 · I am attempting to print some models that require support however; I do not want the raft. I select the Activate Raft option in Skeinforge and Support Cross Hatch but will not print the support unless I also choose add Raft, Elevate Nozzle, Orbit.

Feb 12, 2013 · I thought I had extruder problems due to getting excessive blobbing, big gaps on perimeters and bad results on supported prints. I stripped the extruder, got rid of the back lash due to an ill-fitting drive nut in the extruder gear but it had no effect on the above problems so I tried Slic3r after using Skeinforge since first building the printer.
