Remove the entire extruder assembly from the X-carriage by unscrewing the two mounting block screws. Using the two included wrenches, unscrew the nozzle while applying counter-pressure to the barrel. Thread the new nozzle in until it is in contact with the heater block, then back off 1/4 turn.

Single extruder machines simply added support structures using the same (and only) material available. This excess material is simply trimmed off after the print completes. This definitely works, but has a couple of major problems: Cannot be used for internal supports where the support structure cannot be removed - say from the interior of a cube.

A printer with more than one extruder can be used in different ways. If you have a multi-part model, that defines distinct regions, you can assign each one of them to an extruder. If you have a single part model, you can assign different roles to each extruder: for example, you can infill using a larger nozzle or you can build support material with soluble filament.

In respect of separate support printing, it doesn't have to be soluble. It can be a dissimilar material and still work. Another option is to have both ABS and PLA filaments loaded and choose which to use without having to perform changes. I have a single extruder Mendel90 which I find great for general printing.
