Shingles is a frustrating condition. What I intended to say, is if you have pain in other areas of your body, i.e. head, hands, feet, arms, distant from where you had shingles you should consider another evaluation. There are certain diseases that affect your nerves, diabetes being the most common.

Shingles can come back. My Mom got shingles twice. Once when I was in Desert Storm and the second time when I went to Afghanistan, so if anyone says it doesn't come back, it does. No one told me she had it either time, but with shingles she had twice and sciatic nerve pain she had for two months, she doesn't know how I stand it.

Shingles Support Group. Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.
