Looks like a PATA controller, but with a few added, non-standard SATA port controls. Hardware does not support hotplug. "Warmplug" support is possible. Update: ICH6/7/8 include support for addressing the SATA PHY registers. This is not yet supported in Linux, mainly because some BIOS do not fill in the necessary (PCI BAR) resources.

May 22, 2004 · Any RAID setup that requires a software driver to work is actually oftware RAID, not hardware RAID. Linux does have drivers for some RAID chipsets, but instead of trying to get some unsupported, propietary driver to work with your system, you may be better off with the MD driver, which is open-source and well supported.
