Dec 14, 2012 · I have a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3R-B3 motherboard with the new U1e UEFI BIOS. I have a Crucial M4 SSD on the first Intel SATA port and 3 WD HDDs and 2 DVD-ROMs on the other 5 SATA ports. Should I have hot plug enabled or disabled in the BIOS? Are there any advantages/disadvantages to having hot plug set either way? cheers

Nov 17, 2011 · SATA allows hot disconnection. No hotplug for fixed disks (hotplug disabled). This is only necessary if you want to disconnect the drive while the system is running, except the disk that is working. Concerning the SATA Marvel Port, I don't know the reponse.

AFAIK, UBUNTU supports the eSATA hotplug capability since version 12.0.
