RSLogix 5000 should either be on the DVD along with Studio 5000 or if you downloaded Studio 5000 from the Rockwell software download site, you should be able to download RSLogix 5000 as well. No additional license is required.

Now I proceed to try to install the versions of Studio that I ACTUALLY need to support some customers and so I proceeded to version 29.00.01.

The PLC Firmware Version and the RSLogix version must match. This is why the PLC is shipped with either nothing or a very low firmware. This allows you to use whichever version of RSLogix you have on that PLC. If you are looking for a recommendation I would shoot for version 21 or better.
