On the other side of the wall is the old external wall. I placed another 3 acros to support the wall and floor on this side. I had to tension them very tight. So that’s 6 acros supporting the upper wall. As i moved the RSJ into postition i made sure that none of the acros strongboys got disturbed.

However before starting any work you need structure engineer to do his calculations what size RSJ you need then he will provide you calculation and drawings which need to be sended to building control.Surveyer can supply you with one copy so you can supply to builder that copy then another copy he can send to building control.

Sep 03, 2019 · Looking to take out a supporting wall to open up the downstairs but just have a question about support for the steel. I've had a SE do the calcs for the size of steel etc but when I've stripped the plaster board off the wall the block work stops at the wall in the downstairs WC which is where I want to open the room up to.

Nov 25, 2019 · I should imagine the party wall is single skin brick at 4". If so use 6x4 rsj and dont make the opening wider than 2m. That way you dont need structural engineer just building regs. Sit the rsj on pad stones and your all good

Are concrete lintels strong enough to support the huge amount of weight? * cheers for the replies :-) just want to add an SE report was done, steel was preferred but lintel could be used.
