Hi guys, I have to use a Cisco router supporting a huge amount of GRE tunnels (with RIP or BGP running on every tunnel). Which model is the best choice if the number of tunnels is 100? Which one if the tunnels are 400? Regards Stefano

Traffic forwarded through the GRE tunnel is encapsulated and routed out onto the physical interface of the router. Some platform does not support GRE at all, some process GRE with its CPU which has very limited capacity comparing for the large volume of traffic that it is delivering through the specialized hardware processing. So we need to be careful when deciding to use GRE.
