    https://support.roku.com/article/208756108-can-i-listen-to-movies-and-tv-shows-in-surround-sound-
Yes. Although most Roku streaming devices do not decode Dolby ® Digital Plus ™ or DTS ® surround sound, they can pass through the signal to an audio/video receiver (AVR), soundbar, or another device that is capable of decoding surround sound.. All the movies and TV shows accessible through your Roku streaming player or Roku TV ™ are available in stereo; however, many are also available ...

How to Stream and Play MKV (DTS) files on Roku 3 (Roku 2)

    https://www.easefab.com/video-tips/play-mkv-on-roku.html
The main issue lies with Dolby Digital and DTS audio. These files only work over USB and the audio is only supported via pass through. This means Roku won't help you out if your system doesn't support 5.1 DTS audio. To get those MKV files and Roku 3 to play nicely, the easy workaround is to transcode them to a compatible format.

Does the new Roku stream DTS-X, DTS-MA and Dolby A ...

To my knowledge, you cannot use the Atmos stream from your ripped Blu Ray discs because that is in Dolby TrueHD. At this time, there is no Roku that supports TrueHD. While Roku also does not support DTS Master Audio, it will read the DTS core from the DTS-MA and stream that. Therefore, DTS-MA does not require audio transcoding, but TrueHD does.

Will Roku ever support lossless audio passthrough ...

    https://community.roku.com/t5/Roku-Device-Features-Settings-Updates/Will-Roku-ever-support-lossless-audio-passthrough/td-p/495493
However, no Roku box still supports image based captions, so that's another place the Shield wins. I can stream my UHD rips in 4K/UHD and TrueHD Atmos or DTS:X and display captions right now. No telling when/if Roku will ever support them both.

When will we see Dolby Vision support? - Roku Community

Nov 15, 2019 · But Roku also needs to support lossless audio bitstreaming, including TrueHD/Atmos and DTS:X, more audio and video codecs, and far better caption support. Many Roku users use them with AVRs to process the audio, and the lack of lossless audio is particularly annoying.
