See issue 9762 for additional details and workarounds. The version of Python 2.6 in Ubuntu itself has been appropriately patched, so the Ubuntu source package should build just fine.

After doing a bit of searching, it seems this isn't going to be a viable longterm solution as Ubuntu 16.04 removes python-support. Indeed, that deb file is not compatible with Ubuntu 16.04, since its dependencies don't account for Ubuntu's move away from python2 in favor of python3.
