We both are not a member of the Audio Group. Deleting ~/.pulse from both accounts has no effect on this behaviour.. The issue started in 9.10 Karmic and continued to be there even after an upgrade to 10.04 Lucid LTS. This indicates that some erroneous settings survived the upgrades.

OSSv4.1 tries to install a fitting libflashsupport automatically. However, some distros prefer removing libflashsupport from the package, using a separate package for it. getting libflashsupport. Debian/Ubuntu: Do not install libflashsupport package from apt-get. That packages only supports Pulseaudio, and should be removed if you have it.

Parag: It seems like your sound server died. When this happens, please look for messages from the pulseaudio daemon in /var/log/messages. If this happens regularly, you may replace the pulseaudio server daemon with server run in the terminal session and with increased verbosity.
