DSD is supported from HDMI version 1.2 and up but since PS3 doesn’t support DSD output and instead converts DSD to PCM, a receiver with HDMI v1.1 will do. The resolution and sampling frequency you get (44.1, 88.2 or 176.4 kHz) depends on the receiver’s capabilities.

Jul 24, 2007 · I'm also hoping that Sony will add DSD over HDMI functionality in a future firmware upgrade for the PS3. The Yamaha RX-2700 receiver I bought earlier this year has HDMI 1.2a and does support DSD over this connection. Once the PS3 can send DSD to my Yamaha receiver, I'll then be able to hear my concert recordings in FULL fidelity.

Dec 27, 2013 · A buddy has the fat PS3 and the fans get quite noisy when it's hot. Currently I'm using the Yamaha DVD-S657 DVD-A/SACD player from 2004-ish for SACD stereo playback. It resolves enough for me to hear a difference between redbook and DSD, but isn't impressive enough to make the experience so enjoyable that I'm about to grow my SACD collection ...
