The answer is both Yes and No. Intel VT-x or AMD-V capable processors have inbuilt set of processor instruction that can handle virtualization effectively. To be able to use these instruction, they need to be enabled in BIOS. By default they are not enabled. Some say that enabling virtualization in BIOS slows down the performance of the CPU.

What's most important for me to consider when running a virtualized environment? If you want to run a virtualized environment, you should put the emphasis on more (as in, several) rather than big (as in, powerful or fast).. In other words, more cores are better than big/fast cores.Likewise, more Random Access Memory (RAM) is preferable to better/faster RAM.

Nov 14, 2019 · The processor in my Surface Laptop (1st gen) is an i7-7660U. This processor supports Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x) and Intel VT-x with Extended Page Tables, see this Intel page about the processor. The Intel Virtualization technology is enabled via the BIOS and is off by default.

Jun 21, 2014 · As you can see, there are quite a few options to find out whether your cpu supports virtualization and whether it is enabled or not. Manual check. As mentioned earlier, you may look up the processor online to find out about virtualization support. Unless you know the ID of the cpu already, you need to look it up first.
