The desktop is running XP Home Edition V5.1, I can see no obvious differences in the set up and ENABLE BI-DI SUPPORT is available and selected. Both have the port "CNBJNP_000085F8A035" selected with a description of "CANON BJ NETWORK PORT" and the printer "CANON MP620 SERIES PRINTER" (All are my capitals for emphasis).

I have tried two different drivers for a Brother DCP-7020 printer, and under properties, ports, the option for "Enable bidirectional support is gray and not available. 2. When I did that, my option to enable bidirectional support was grayed (ghosted), which left me scratching my head. But then I figured out why the computer was locking me out. By first clicking on the button circled (which grants administrator rights and allows you to change settings), I was able to finally enable bidirectional support.
