Pressure Support Ventilation - an overview

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/pressure-support-ventilation
Pressure support ventilation is patient triggered and normally flow cycled and allows the patient to actively control the start of each breath. Once the patient's inspiratory effort exceeds the trigger-on threshold, a caregiver-defined level of P VENT is delivered to the airways (Figure 18-5, A).After a high initial airflow that is required to rapidly approach the targeted pressure, the ...

In group 2 (n = 20), patients underwent PSV, CPAP, and PSV in sequence. PSV comprised positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) set at 5 cm H 2 O and pressure support set at 5 cm H 2 O above PEEP. CPAP was set at 5 cm H 2 O. Pressure support was initiated when inspiratory flow reached 3 l/min. Each ventilatory mode was maintained for 10 min.Cited by: 59

Sep 24, 2012 · I think of CPAP as a mode and pressure supports is the measurement of the amount of CPAP support. I also think a pressure support as peep I don't know if that's accurate but that's what I think of it . For instance you can have a non-invasive CPAP with a peep of 15 or you can be intubated on vent CPAP with a pressure support of 15.
