    Dec 19, 2004 · Dear All I have just installed pptp client on Mandrake 10.1 Official following the instruction given at pptp client's site. However, when I try to connect to a VPN server, I get the following message in the log: MPPE required, but kernel has no support.

    Aug 22, 2011 · After that I could select "PPP MPPE compression (encryption)" inside "PPP support menu" (under Device Drivers -> Network device support. I also had to compile kernel with PPP filtering, because PPTP was complaining that ppp filtering wasn't supported by my current kernel. This was tricky .. I hope it will help someone in future.     Diagnosis: either the kernel has no MPPE support, or this version of pppd is incompatible with the MPPE kernel module version you used. The most likely cause is using PPP 2.4.2 or later on a kernel that has an MPPE module built for PPP-MPPE 2.4.0 or 2.4.1. For a bit more history on this, see also Why are the pppd options different?
