I have purchased 6 Dell Poweredge 2650s used. Now I am not sure how they have it set up, but when the computer is in the boot up sequence I can use the keyboard and mouse to enter the BIOS, but when Windows Server 2000 on one and 2003 on the others boot up it shuts down the USB ports.

2650 indeed will NOT boot to USB. There isn't anything modern that you can do with a 2650 ... older linux distros are probably your best bet (they will run 32-bit Server 2008 though). Single-core applications and number crunching are their strong suite - decent clock speed in the CPU, but there's only one processing core.

I am trying to boot from a CD. I disabled all other boot drives in the BIOS to get it to go through the CD Drive and then the server says there is no boot drive. Unfortunately there is no option to boot from USB either. I've been reading around the net and it seems to be a common issue with the Poweredge 2650, but I didn't see a fix for it.

Dec 26, 2011 · I have done this with a couple old PowerEdge 2650 and 2850 boxes. Actually, I had to configure the BIOS to boot to USB thumb drive and install the OS from there because the guy before me thought DVD drives in servers was overkill and lacked the foresight that OS installation files may only come on DVDs in the future.
