I was trying to use mail fetcher but it does not allow me to recieve messages from another gmail account without deleting messages from the original account. I would like to leave a copy of my messages in the original account. This seems like something that gmail should be implicitly doing since it supports fetching mail from non-gmail accounts.

When trying to add a pop* email account (aol, verizon.net) to gmail's Check mail from other accounts, the message "pop.verizon.net does not support leaving messages on the server". The "Leave a copy of retrieved message on the server" checkbox is not checked in the Add Account pop up and I can not add the account to gmail.

Of the most common types of email accounts, only POP3 accounts download the email to your computer. If you have an IMAP, or HTTP (Gmail, Outlook.com etc.) account, mail is not generally stored on your computer.
