A police community support officer (PCSO) (Welsh: swyddog cymorth cymunedol yr heddlu, SCCH), or as written in legislation community support officer (CSO) (Welsh: swyddog cymorth cymunedol, SCC) is a uniformed member of police staff in England and Wales, a role created by Section 38(2) of the Police Reform Act 2002, which was given Royal Assent by Queen Elizabeth II on 24 July 2002.

Jun 15, 2008 · But sadly this of course must be a crushing blow to the morale of these young PCSO officers which is a pity, and rather than getting support as you might expect, they must now feel marginalised and seriously undervalued. Where do we go from here is the next question? Howard the police themselves (in or out of their nice cars!) do a good job.

The Chief Constable can decide which of the powers available to PCSOs generally are to be conferred on their force's PCSOs. The Chief Constable can also choose to extend any part of any power, for instance an individual PCSO, or a force's PCSOs, may be able to detain a person for up to 30 minutes, but unable to use force to prevent their escape.
