I think you are just mixing formats, all latest php releases work just fine with all jpeg I have here. Btw, you should not use the external GD, I recomment to use the bundled version only. no bug > bogus.

Apr 10, 2012 · Re-uploading a .jpeg logo does solve the issue but there's got to be a way to be able to use PNG images because the invoice picture when used as .jpeg looks distorted (stretched).

I compile my own PHP, partly to learn more about how PHP is put together, and partly because I'm always finding I need modules that aren't available by default, and this way I have control over that.
