Photoshop Elements can open raw files only from supported cameras. Photoshop Elements does not save your changes to the original raw file (non-destructive editing). After processing the raw image file using the features of the Camera Raw dialog box, You can choose to open a processed raw file in Photoshop Elements.

FYI, on a technical note, Lightroom does not actually use the Camera Raw plugin. That's used by Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. The Camera Raw engine is built into the Lightroom source code. So, when you update Lightroom, the extra camera support is included in the software code.

Just to make things more silly adobe just updated photoshop elements 2018 to camera raw 11.4 on the same day as photoshop elements 2020 was released. So now we have an older pse version with a more up to date camera raw plugin 11.4 than a just released brand new pse 2020 with acr 11.3 .

Do any of the PS products have the ability to read/edit the new CR3 file format from Canon. I recently purchased a Canon M50, which stores the RAW images in their new .CR3 format. That standalone software (not a plugin) can batch convert a whole folder of your CR3 files to the DNG raw format that your PSE 2019 can read and edit. Photoshop Elements is compatible with Adobe Camera Raw versions 9.x. ACR. Support for the D500 was added in ACR 9.5.
