Active-State Power Management (ASPM) saves power in the Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI Express or PCIe) subsystem by setting a lower power state for PCIe links when the devices to which they connect are not in use. ASPM controls the power state at both ends of the link, and saves power in the link even when the device at the end of the link is in a fully powered-on state.

Oct 22, 2009 · In PCI Express®, Active State Power Management (ASPM) has been incorporated as a method to better manage power consumption of all system components. ASPM allows individual serial Links in a PCI Express fabric to have power incrementally reduced as a Link becomes less active.

Pcie spec allows pcie link to go to low power states without system driver get involved. This feature is the so-called Active State Power Management (ASPM). In general, either system driver side hardware or device hardware can for example detect some idle time on pcie link and then initiate transition to move

Jul 27, 2013 · The Link State Power Management is a part of PCI Express Active State Power Management (ASPM). The link State of a PCIe Device is converted from L0 (on) to L1 (off) when the link is not transferring data. The hardware is automatically converted to L0 again when data is available to transfer across the link. There are basically 2 levels of power management in the PCI Express options.

Mar 11, 2011 · PCI Express based serial linked devices can be managed by Active State Power Management (ASPM) to extend battery life on mobile devices such as laptops and netbooks. ASPM is a power management protocol that allows an operating system's power management to place the link physical layer into a low power mode and it has the ability to instruct other devices on the link to go …

ASPM support in the Linux kernel is also used to expose ASPM capabilities for PCIE devices to userspace (need confirmation, I see this being done in the code, but makes no sense). You can also muck with ASPM settings to debug root complex/endpoints.
