OSPFv3 with address family support has been added since IOS 15.1(3)S and 15.2(1)T. To demonstrate this I’ll use two routers: Let’s enable OSPFv3 on our routers: R1(config)#router ospfv3 1 %OSPFv3: IPv6 routing not enabled. Even though I only want to configure routing for IPv4, OSPFv3 still uses IPv6 link-local addresses so we have to to ...

Mar 02, 2010 · @Dre: Currently, OSPFv3 only supports IPv6, however this is an Internet draft in the works to port IPv4 to the protocol as well to take advantage of its higher efficiency. The draft suggests the assignments of OSPFv3 instance ID ranges to specific address families (IPv6 unicast, IPv6 multicast, IPv4 unicast, and IPv4 multicast) not unlike MP-BGP.

Dec 18, 2019 · OSPFV3 uses IPv6 link local to build adjacencies . OSPFv3 carries the instance-id inside its packets this makes possible things that were not possible in OSPFv2 for IPv4: a) you can have the same logical interface running on two different OSPF process-ids using the same area
