WPA support requires at least firmware v9.42. v9.48 is available from the linux-firmware tree. The Agere based USB cards require bridge firmware, orinoco_ezusb_fw. Extraction tools can be found in orinoco-fwutils. For WPA the bridge firmware must be compatible with the v9.42 card firmware.

If you own one of the many laptops with the wireless ORiNOCO chipset, this upgrade will allow you to use WPA. You are installing unsupported drivers here. Install at your own risk and revert back to your old driver if this doesn’t work well for you.

I just purchased an Orinoco Client PC Card 802.11b Gold Series from overstock and they said that the card was upgradable to the WPA standard. Well I could find 0 info on the proxim site but did a search and found a pdf doc from proxim saying that it was not going to provide the upgrade to 802.11b devices due to hardware limitations.
