In the past months, I have spoken to many SAP customers that told me about ONE issue they face, when virtualizing SAP: Oracle would not support SAP production landscapes on VMware.

Jun 23, 2010 · You could read the following MOS note : Support Position for Oracle Products Running on VMWare Virtualized Environments ID 249212.1+ Briefly, none of the Oracle products are currently supported on VMWare. If you have an issue, you first may have to reproduce it in a non-VMWare environment (in a supported env.) before raising a SR.

May 20, 2010 · Can anyone tell me what's the latest with VMWare and Oracle ? I have been reading around the web, and I am picking up mixed signals. From my understanding, Oracle does run in the VM Environment, but if you have trouble, Oracle won't provide any tech support for the problem. Is this still the case ? Cheers Steve

Jan 13, 2010 · The "SAP on Oracle: Development Update February 2010" (available from SDN) on page 28 states "New: Oracle does now support VMware for productive SAP environments" yet this statement is not called out on either MetaLink or Service Marketplace in quite that strong of language.

Apr 28, 2011 · Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized environments. Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle products on VMware in the following manner: Oracle will only provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware.
