Jan 08, 2018 · Some time ago I wrote how to add Real Time Clock (RTC) support to OpenWrt. Currently support for RTC chip DS1370 is still not 100% there in OpenWrt because there is a bug that causes OpenWrt builder to just skip over compiling RTC kernel modules. Tools are there, driver is there, but you have to compile them manually.

Recent changes in OpenWrt have seen the introduction of better support for i2c. It's no longer necessary to resort to custom kernel modules and custom userland programs to get up to 4 i2c busses on your BR-6104K(P) and use them in your projects.

I2C on MT7621/MT7628/MT7688 has two modes: "auto" and "manual". Old driver uses "auto" mode which does not support propper ACK/NAK handling, clock stratching, repeated start and was limited to 32 bytes per message. This driver is using "manual" mode so it can support all these features.
